The nominations for the 62nd Grammy Awards to be held in 2020 were announced on 20th November. And while there were a few surprises, there were also a few expected entries.
Female artists dominated the “big four” awards – the best new artist, the song of the year, the record of the year and the album of the year.
Lizzo, who has been nominated for the best new artist, leads the nominations with a total of eight. She is closely followed by freshman artists Billie Eilish and Lil Nas X, who scored six nominations each.
Billie Eilish, who is now 17 and turns 18 next month, has become the youngest ever artist in the history of the awards to be nominated in each of the four main categories.
Interestingly, Michelle Obama has also earned herself a Grammy nomination for the audiobook of her autobiography, Becoming. If she does win the award, she would become the only second lady to do so ever. The first was Hilary Clinton, who was awarded the Grammy for the book It Takes a Village in 1996 in which she presents her vision for the children of America.
Alicia Keys is set to host the massive event, which will be held on 26 January at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The awards will honour artists in a total of 84 categories.
