Officially kicking off the awards season for Hollywood, the Golden Globe awards have been awarded! The 77th Golden Globe Awards were held at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hill, California on 5th January 2020.
The event was hosted by stand-up comedian and actor Ricky Gervais for the fifth time.
Awkwafina created Golden Globe history by becoming the first actress of Asian descent to win a Gloden Globe for best actress in a comedy. She won the trophy for her portrayal of Billi Wang in ‘The Farewell.’ Meanwhile, Brad Pitt earned his second Golden Globe for playing Cliff Booth in ‘Once upon a time in Hollywood.’ Also, Quentin Tarantino won his third Golden Globe for the best screenplay for the same movie.
One of the biggest upsets of the night, however, was Sam Mendes winning the best director trophy his World War I drama ‘1917.’ He beat heavyweights such as Martin Scorsese and Quentin Tarantino to grab the honour.
Tom Hanks was awarded the Cecil B. DeMille award, the Globes lifetime achievement honour. He gave a very emotional speech that had almost everyone, including him, in tears.
