Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy reuniting as the Sanderson Sister witches from the 1993 Halloween movie Hocus Pocus only took 29 years! Hocus Pocus 2 premiered on Disney+ on 30th September, and even though it almost feels more like a remake than a sequel, it should make up for lost time with its audience and do admirably good during this Halloween season.
The original movie was not a major critical or commercial success upon its release but has developed love over the years to be a true cult smash and Halloween favorite. We’ll just have to wait and see how the sequel performs on Disney+ Hotstar.

The movie begins with a flashback when young Winifred, Mary, and Sarah shown as children in the 1600s were being exiled to the Forbidden Woods, chased by the Reverend Traske (Tony Hale), and ultimately put to death for engaging in witchcraft.

29 years later a different female trio is crucial in bringing the witches back to life in Salem and on a fresh mission. Every birthday, Becca (Whitney Peak) travels to the same Forbidden Woods to make goals for the following year since she has always been captivated by the history of the Sanderson Sisters and witchcraft in general.
She receives the magical Black Flame Candle for her 16th birthday from the Olde Salem Magic Shoppe, a museum that used to be the Sandersons’ original residence. The trio lights the candle in the middle of the forest and poof! The witches are back!
