‘Baby Shark’ becomes most watched YouTube video

The very catchy and infectious children’s song ‘Baby Shark’ became the most-watched video on YouTube on 2nd November 2020, surpassing ‘Despacito,’ the 2017 single by Puerto Rican popstars Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee.

The famous song, recorded by the South Korean company Pinkfong, garnered 7.04 billion views. With its interesting dance moves, addictive tune, and colourful video, the song was first uploaded to the YouTube platform in June 2016.

While it is ambiguous about who the original writer of the song is, the song became a global sensation after it was recorded by the 10-year-old Korean American singer Hope Segoine.

It first went viral in the South-east Asian region and then in the United States and Europe. Apart from its success on YouTube, the song also made it to the number 32 spot on the Billboard Hot 100.

And no, it is not just children that are enamoured by this song. The catchy song that has the words du-du-du-du-du as a repetitive theme was also played by the Nationals baseball team as their anthem! Also, there is a version of this song that promotes handwashing during these times of the coronavirus pandemic.
